Jake Welcomes Visitors from Whitworth’s German Twin Town to Westminster
Jake gave the Kandel delegation a guided tour of Westminster during their visit to the UK.
Whitworth and Kandel became twinned at a ceremony in Kandel on 6 August 1966, by a Charter formally signed by the Chairman of the Whitworth Urban District Council, Councillor Frank W Walker, and the Burgermeister of Kandel, Herr Oskar Böhm. Each year, a delegation from one town visits the other; this year it was Whitworth’s turn to host their counterparts.
Jake Berry commented: “It gave me great pleasure to welcome the visitors from Kandel to Parliament. I think it is important to maintain these grassroots links with our European neighbours. There is so much going on at the political level between different nations such as Britain and Germany; visits such as these remind us that at a day to day level, we are all similar people with similar values leading similar lives.
I hope the delegation enjoyed their visit and I am sure that the next group from Whitworth are looking forward to their trip to Kandel in 2012.”
