Jake Berry MP to launch Darwen Big Society Works awards
A different person or group of people will be chosen for the awards every month from local nominations. Each winner will receive a £50 donation to a good cause, a visit from their Member of Parliament and other local elected representatives and, crucially, help and advice about how to access funds for their project.
At the end of the Year, the overall winner will have the opportunity to visit Parliament for a day and receive a £200 donation to their cause.
Jake commented: “Regardless of what we understand to be meant by the Big Society we all know that there are literally hundreds of people in our community who are vital to bind communities together. These unsung heroes keep our Churches, Mothers and Toddler Groups, Annual Fairs and many other local facilities open and without them our lives would be much the poorer.
Working together I hope we can voice the communities thanks to people who do vital volunteering in Darwen.
I do hope the people of Darwen will support this by nominating someone from their community who deserves more recognition; it is my intention that it be promoted on a non-political basis and simply aimed at promoting volunteering in Darwen.”
