Jake Berry MP: Rossendale bin collection proposals are total rubbish
Jake has condemned the Labour led Council’s plans to scrap bin collections in Rossendale.
A petition has been launched and a 2nd reisdents' meeting organised for 31 August.
Appalled at the proposals put forward by Labour Cllr Alyson Barnes, Jake has contacted RBC’s Chief Executive, Helen Lockwood, and asked her not to scrap bin collections until after there has been a full consultation with all affected residents.
Jake Berry said:
‘I am fundamentally opposed to these proposals regarding bin collection services. While cost savings are necessary in this economy, leaving one section of the community to fend for themselves when it comes to rubbish collection is an appalling approach to the problem. A residents’ meeting was held on Wednesday 10th August at 7.30pm at Rossendale Rugby Club to consider these dreadful plans and we have started a petition to stop them going ahead.
Undoubtedly it is necessary to make cost savings where possible at the moment but waste management is too important for the health and cleanliness of communities to be treated in this manner. It would seem much more sensible to try and get all residents on board with a positive scheme perhaps including a recycling initiative rather than alienating 700 homes.’
