Darwen shows its true colours as the most patriotic town in Britain
In recognition of this and Darwen’s support for army charities, the Red Arrows have confirmed a midday flypast during the Darwen 1940's Day on Saturday 3rd September.
At midday on Saturday 3rd September (the day WWII began) 2011 the whole community will come together to celebrate everything that's good about the U.K. The event has been organized by the Soldiers Support Group Darwen - formed two years ago by six concerned mothers in reaction to the continuous TV coverage of returning coffins – and has raised over £10,000 for various army charities.

‘Despite being in an officially 'deprived' area of Britain, the Darwen community has shrugged off its own difficulties and demonstrated what can be achieved when people work together for the common good. Their charitable activities have received a letter of Royal support from HRH Prince of Wales and a supportive email from the MOD in Afghanistan.
In the light of recent riots, it gives me a real sense of pride to represent an area that is prepared to pull together when times are tough and make the needs of others a priority. This is the Big Society in action and Darreners should feel rightly proud of themselves and each other for making it work.’
