Rossendale and Darwen MP, Jake Berry comments on the Healthy Futures Programme
Jake recently met with Sir Jonathan Asbridge, Programme Director of Healthy Futures, and David Edwards, interim Chairman of NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale for an update on the Healthy Futures Consultation process, together with local MPs Jim Dobbin and Simon Danczuk.
Jake expressed his concern at the removal of local general hospital services by Pennine Acute Hospitals under the Healthy Futures Programme.
“I understand further changes are planned which will lead to the loss of yet more local services in cardiology and stroke rehabilitation. My constituents tell me of the difficulties these changes will cause them. There is a general air of concern that local services are being eroded and that Rochdale Infirmary will be closed when Pennine Acute Hospitals become a Foundation Trust.
“Following our meeting, Jim, Simon and I have requested to see a copy of the clinical strategy to ascertain that further cuts to local services are not planned and that local GPs and Local Authorities are fully and transparently involved in its production.”
Jake added, “I will continue working to ensure local services stay in the Valley and its residents receive the care and attention they deserve.”
