Valley MP welcomes all schools to Westminster
Jake Berry, the new MP for Rossendale and Darwen, has written to every school within the area inviting them to Westminster for a tour of the Houses of Parliament. All schools also have the opportunity of a question and answer session with Jake after their tour to get a feel for life as an MP.
Jake has already had the great pleasure of hosting pupils from schools all across the constituency since has been elected MP and would like to encourage more students to learn about Parliament and its history.
Jake commented, “I remember visiting the House of Commons when I was at school and it certainly made an enormous impression on me. I am delighted that schools encourage interest in politics and it is a real pleasure to meet pupils during their visits to London.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed accommodating several schools in my first few months as a new MP and I would welcome any schools interested.”
The Houses of Parliament run an Education Service for students aged 7 to 18 which enables schools across the UK to tour Parliament and undertake workshops to suit all ages. Tours and resources are free of charge and schools also qualify for a travel subsidy to and from London.
Kevin Grehan, Head of History at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School said, “I took 90 of my students in Julys and they all loved it. Jake dedicated his time to showing all the groups round and I would like to thank him for making our students’ visit to Parliament a truly memorable one.”
