Darwen Police Station saved
The Front Desk was set to close as part of a cost cutting plan to save Lancashire police £42 million.
In June Jake said, “Moving the service Blackburn simply does not make sense and is not a decision I intend to let go unchallenged.” With the help of Darwen Conservatives, a campaign was set up with a local petition that gained enormous public support.
After a three month consultation period concerning the future of the front desks in Lancashire, the front desk has been saved. More than 11,000 people took part and as a result there has been a dramatic decrease in the number of front counters that will now be closed.
Jake said, “I am extremely delighted that we have managed to save the Front Desk at our local police station. This is excellent news for all Darreners who I am sure will be reassured by the news that this vital service will be staying. I would like to pay personal tribute to all the support that people have shown in campaigning to retain this. Senior Officers have told me that it was this overwhelming public opinion that was a major factor in helping our community save such a fundamental service. This just goes to show what can be achieved when we come together as a community.”
