Jake presents a cheque with NatWest CommunityForce Team to Sylvia Lancaster
Jake presented a cheque as part of NatWest’s CommunityForce scheme to Sylvia Lancaster and the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.
Sophie Lancaster was a twenty year old girl who was killed in a vicious attack by a group of youths in a Lancashire park in 2007. Sylvia Lancaster set up the Foundation in memory of her daughter to focus on creating respect and understanding in our communities. It will also work in combination with politicians and police forces to ensure individuals who are part of minority cultures are protected by the law.
NatWest’s CommunityForce is a scheme that aims to help local communities and to raise awareness of local projects and charities and to make their plans a reality. As well as raising awareness, each project or charity that applied had the chance to win an award of £6,000 to put towards their work. Over five and a half thousand applications applied which went forward to a public vote.
Jake said, “I was honoured to present the NatWest CommunityForce cheque to Sylvia Lancaster in Darwen last weekend. I greatly admire this foundation which seeks to bring such positive change to our communities out of such a terrible tragedy. It is impossible to imagine what Sylvia has gone through losing her daughter Sophie in such awful circumstances and at such a young age but her work in the creation of the Foundation is an inspiration to us all.”
