Jake celebrates Lancashire Day
Jake Berry has celebrated Lancashire Day.
Lancashire Day commemorates the day in 1295 when Lancashire sent its first representatives to Parliament by King Edward I of England to attend what later became known as The Model Parliament. It is observed with the loyal toast to ‘The Queen, Duke of Lancaster’ and is celebrated widely in the county.
The occasion was marked at an event at the Houses of Parliament featuring many of Lancashire’s MPs.
Jake said, “As a proud Lancastrian, I was thrilled to celebrate Lancashire Day on 27th November. It is a great opportunity to celebrate the proud history of our wonderful county and we should do more to mark our unique cultural heritage. I celebrated with Lancashire’s Cricket County Championship trophy which was a great achievement made particularly satisfying by triumphing over Yorkshire on both occasions. Yorkshire MPs were strictly prohibited unless they were accompanied by 2 MPs from Lancashire!”
