Jake praises National Lottery Fund award to Blackburn with Darwen council’s youth garden project scheme
The National Lottery Fund has recently announced details of the grants which it will be providing to projects in the local area.
Blackburn with Darwen Council is to receive £116,151 for the expansion of the pilot community garden project which uses the reclaimed Twin Valley Homes garden centre site to engage young people of varying abilities and backgrounds in order to develop new skills to improve health, readiness for work, well being, confidence and self-esteem. The project provides vocational training, learning and volunteering to bring communities together so as to tackle social and health inequalities.
Jake said: "It is great that young people in the area are being given this opportunity to develop skills in this kind of environment and are being encouraged to really engage with their communities. I hope that this scheme will help to generate a new level of personal investment and local activism among the young to look out for the interests and the general well being of their local areas."
