Jake calls for development of Rossendale Rail Link to ease congestion
According to a recent report in The Sunday Times (Source: TomTom) it is revealed that the M66 had the worst congestion in the country in October 2011. Commuters to Manchester cause queues at rush hour at the junction with the city’s ring road, the M60. It is estimated that the average number of vehicles that daily use this road is around 63,000. The longest delay is 4 hours 49.3mins.
Jake said, “This study which shows that the M66 is the most congested in the country is shocking. This unreasonable level of congestion chokes business in Rossendale and is disastrous for our local economy. Something must be done. We cannot afford to wait any longer and I will be calling on ministers to take urgent action. We must have a Rossendale Rail Link to give commuters another option.”
Jake is calling for an urgent parliamentary debate on this subject.
Jake said, “It’s not just about business and commuting, people will face severe delays on the way to Fairfield Hospital. As we have no hospital in the Valley, gridlocked traffic may well be the difference between life and death.”
