Queues of people struggled to get into the The Holocaust Educational Trust's Lord Merlyn Rees Lecture which took place on Monday evening in Portcullis House in the Houses of Parliament.
Lord Janner opened proceedings, Radio 4‘s The World at One Martha Kearney chaired proceedings and Cabinet Minister Francis Maude spoke to the packed audience that included an impressive number of holocaust survivors.
Famous historian, and Hitler and Nazi Germany specialist, Sir Ian Kershaw gave an interesting, but disturbing, historical analysis about the interaction between Hitler, Heinrich and civil servants.
Three young HET ambassadors spoke very movingly of their visits to Auschwitz.
Jake said, “The HET plays a very important role in combating antisemitism, racism and prejudice of all types. It’s “Lessons from Auschwitz” project is fantastic and will be encouraging all schools in Rossendale and Darwen to get involved.”
