Jake supports weekly Bin Collection
I am often contacted by people who live in back to back housing who have no proper place to put the bin or people who only have a small yard and no ginnel. If they miss one collection day because they are away or out at work, they don’t have their bin emptied for a month and often have rotting food waste and nappies right by their front door. It’s not just about forgetting to put out your bin. Last year in the snow, some houses missed two collection days due to the weather and did not have their bins emptied for well over a month.
No one wants to discourage recycling but a fortnightly collection is the only way of encouraging this. Blackburn with Darwen Council, less than 3 miles from my home in Rossendale, have retimed weekly collections but more than halved the size of the bin for non recyclables. This has increased recycling not reduced it but has also maintained their basic weekly service.
With £250 million of new government money on offer to re-instate our weekly service now is the time for the council to think again on the service it offers to local residents."
