Letter to The Times
Dear Sir/Madam
We write with regard to the article on Page 18 of The Times from Monday 25th January 2012, accompanied by a photograph of Members of Parliament meeting with Sir Richard Branson.
Our brief meeting with Sir Richard followed a Westminster Hall debate on the Government’s role in encouraging people to become self employed, entrepreneurialism and youth employment. This debate was widely supported by Conservative Members of Parliament and Sir Richard had expressed his interest in this debate which is why he meet with us. However, your article did not mention this at all, but associated our meeting following the debate with Sir Richard’s comments to the Home Affairs Select Committee earlier in the day about the liberalisation of Britain’s drug laws. The two issues were separate and therefore believe that the use of the photograph which followed a business debate, alongside comments on drugs liberalisation is misleading.
We believe that the Government is entirely right in its pledge that it has “no intention of liberalising our drugs laws,” but welcome Sir Richard’s knowledge and input on business and industry issues.
Yours sincerely
