Jake Berry MP battles Royal Mail to get fairer deal for local residents
Valley MP, Jake Berry has written to Royal Mail to highlight the plight of his constituents who will now have to pick up undelivered parcels from the Bolton Post Office rather than from Edgworth. Jake is concerned that this will result in a 14 mile round trip for some people to collect their parcels which he feels is unacceptable.

Mr Berry commented, “I think it is outrageous that residents will now have to use a sizeable part of their day collecting parcels which were undelivered. It is a huge inconvenience, especially to the elderly, those with young children and those who work long hours who will now have to plan ahead before collecting their parcels from Bolton.
“I am therefore urging Royal Mail to reconsider their decision and bring back this vital service to Edgworth and I will continue to push for this until I am heard.”
Letter to Rebecca Twist, Head of Response Services, Royal Mail.
Dear Ms Twist,
I am writing on behalf of the residents of Edgworth, Turton, BL7 regarding parcel collection.
I understand that until recently, residents have been able to collect their undelivered parcels from Edgworth Post Office which is located within the village and within close proximity to where they reside.
I have been informed that Royal Mail has changed this policy and postmen have been instructed to return undelivered parcels to the Bolton Post office.
For my constituents, this is a 14 mile round trip which proves extremely difficult for residents especially for the elderly or those who do not drive. As this is a rural area, public transport is not sufficient to provide them with easy access to the Bolton Post Office and collection from Edgworth Post Office is an invaluable service to the local residents of Turton.
It is unacceptable to expect residents to make this journey and I would be grateful if you could review this policy change in light of the difficulties my constituents are experiencing and reinstate the collection service within Edgworth.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Jake Berry MP
