Jake Berry’s Week in Parliament
Jake Berry has had a very busy week in Parliament getting answers from Ministers on issues affecting his constituency such as gritting, labelling of halal food, gun licensing and Rochdale Hospital.
Monday
Jake received answers to two written questions from Ministers today, one from the Minister for Transport, and one from the Minister for Business, Innovation and Skills.
Jake had asked the Secretary of State for Transport what plans he has for funding rail line improvements between Darwen and Manchester.
Jake also asked the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills if he will discuss with Royal Mail the continued provision of services (a) in Edgworth and (b) other small rural villages.
Jake commented, “I think local Post Offices are a vital life-line for residents, especially the elderly, and I want to ensure that my constituents are protected from the closure of their local branches.”
Tuesday
Jake received written answers from the Ministers for the Home Office and Transport.
Jake had asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he has plans for central control of the supply of road grit to local authorities
Jake remarked, “Rossendale and Darwen were undersupplied with grit last year and it made it very difficult for residents to move around. I want to take every step possible to ensure that residents are not snowed into their own homes again this year.”
Jake also asked the Secretary of State for Health (1) what assessment he has made of the effect on numbers of healthcare staff at Rochdale hospital of the proposed transfer of facilities (a) to and (b) from the hospital; (2) what assessment he has made of the effect on (a) referral times and (b) treatment of acute cases of the transfer of hospital facilities (i) from and (ii) to Rochdale...
Wednesday
Jake received an answer from the Minister for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs on his question regarding food labelling.
Jake had asked the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what timetable her Department has set for discussions with the food industry on labelling and point of sale information on methods of preparation of meat.
Jake commented, “I believe we are what we eat and every person has a right to know what they are putting into their body. I want to ensure that the issue of food labelling is dealt with as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
Jake also asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what timetable she has set for her Department's review of firearms legislation.
