Jake Berry MP criticises uninsured motorists
Jake Berry, Member of Parliament for Rossendale and Darwen, has condemned uninsured motorists who drive up costs for residents of Rossendale and Darwen.
"Every motorists in this area is already reeling from higher fuel prices. It's a disgrace that the irresponsible and illegal actions of some motorists impacts financially on motor insurance premiums and penalises law abiding motorists. The cost of compensating victims of uninsured drivers is around £500 million per year! Fraudulent motor insurance claims incur further costs and some 108 bogus motor claims worth £1.1 million are detected every day."
"To add to the costs caused by uninsured motorists, some £2.7 million per day goes to the legal profession through motor insurance premiums. The average personal injury claim of £2,430 attracts legal costs of £2,104. This equates to 87p paid in legal costs for every £1 paid in compensation."
Jake added, "I will pursue reforms to reduce these appalling statistics and the expense involved in uninsured driving, fraudulent claims and the costs in the presonal injury claims process. Such reforms should in turn reduce premiums for motorists."
