Jake Berry MP Presses Chancellor for Local Enterprise Zone
Jake Berry MP has asked the Chancellor, George Osborne, to indicate whether Rossendale and Darwen will fall within one of the 10 enterprise zones planned in the 2011 Budget.

The Chancellor’s proposed enterprise zones will be introduced to kick-start investment, growth and jobs in designated areas. The £100million initiative will cut business taxes and relax planning laws in order to stimulate the economy.
The original north-east Lancashire enterprise zone, designated in December 1983, received all-party support at the time because of the obvious success that it had in attracting new investment to the area. It consisted of seven sites in the boroughs of
Jake Berry commented: “Rossendale and Darwen has an industrious and skilled workforce. Any policy that encourages growth in our vital manufacturing base will be welcomed by local people and has my full support. With this in mind I have asked the Chancellor to actively consider designating Rossendale and Darwen within one of the newly planned enterprise zones.”
He added: “We have a proud heritage of manufacturing here with a particularly strong tradition in furniture production and engineering. An enterprise zone here in Rossendale and Darwen will ensure that we play our part in driving Britain’s economy forward to a brighter future.”
