Jake Berry MP rededicates Hoddlesden Cenotaph

Jake Berry, MP for Rossendale and Darwen, rededicated Hoddlesden Cenotaph on Sunday. The stone cenotaph and four matching urns were placed in the centre of the village green in the 1920s, to honour the dead from the First World War. Subsequently the names of soldiers killed in the Second World War and the Falklands War were also added.

After nearly a century of weathering, the memorial was in a poor state of repair until recently when members of the East Rural Network, a local community action group, managed to raise around £2,500 to facilitate its refurbishment.

Jake Berry commented: “I was proud to show my support for our armed forces by rededicating the Hoddlesden Cenotaph on Sunday. These memorials are important monuments to history and remind us all of the terrible consequences of wars, past and present. The ceremony served both to show our remembrance and to demonstrate our gratitude to those who made the effort to ensure that this memorial is maintained for future generations.”
