Jake Berry MP tackles potholes and lane closures
Jake Berry, MP for Rossendale and Darwen, has welcomed the Government’s announcement of £200m of additional funding to help repair Britain’s roads. After years of under investment by the Labour Government and the harsh winters of the last couple of years, Lancashire’s roads have been left in a terrible state. Mr Berry and Lancashire County Council have made great efforts to improve the local road network and prevent drivers being constantly blighted by lane closures.
Jake Berry commented: “I am delighted that the Government has committed to helping local communities by improving our roads. The North West is set to receive over £23m of additional funding with around £3.7m being allocated to Lancashire.”
He added: “I have received numerous complaints regarding the state of the roads and delays caused by roadworks for essential utility upgrades. Constituents are tired of their roads being repeatedly dug up by one utility company after another.
Lancashire County Council has worked hard to keep traffic disruption to a minimum while maintenance is being carried out by contractors. To help them achieve this, I am meeting with a representative from the Council next Friday to discuss a lane rental scheme which will charge contractors a daily fee while the lane is closed. This will force them to coordinate their activities to minimise disruption and avoid unnecessary closing of roads by penalising delays.”
