MP asks constituents to nominate their favourite Curry House for Parliamentary award
Following the success of the Tiffin Cup 2010, Jake Berry has been asked to nominate a restaurant in Rossendale and Darwen to compete and be named the Best Curry House in Britain. Jake Berry, MP for Rossendale and Darwen, is keen for his constituency to participate in this year’s competition, citing a number of local restaurants that could field a strong performance.
Now in the sixth year of the competition, last year saw a record seventy restaurants nominated from around the country: from the Isle of Barra in Scotland; the Newport coast of Wales and to central London. This time, The Tiffin Cup hopes to build upon the popularity of this mouth-watering competition, encouraging the participation of as many constituencies as possible, to celebrate the diversity of British culture and recognise the importance of South Asian cuisine.
The Tiffin Cup is awarded every year by the Tiffin Club of MPs. The aim is to not only applaud the quality and diversity of South Asian food in Britain but also raise a significant amount of money for charity. This year the competition is in aid of ‘World Vision’.
Jake Berry, local MP said: “I am a huge fan of South Asian food and often go for a curry on Fridays after an advice surgery. I hope all other curry lovers here in Rossendale and Darwen will nominate their favourite curry house.”
Keith Vaz, Chair of the Tiffin Club, said, “With the overwhelming success of last year’s competition we are looking forward to another chance to sample some of the best offerings of Indian food in Britain. At the same time we also hope to encourage some healthy competition amongst MPs from all parties, while raising money for such a worthy charity.”
Please send your nominations to Jake.Berry.mp@parliament.uk before 4 May 2011.
