Jake Berry MP says big Thank You to retiring local Magistrate Margaret Dunne
Jake Berry, MP for Rossendale and Darwen, has praised the long and dedicated career of local magistrate Margaret Dunne. Mrs Dunne, a prominent member of the local community, retired from her position as a magistrate to the Rossendale Bench last Friday.

Mrs Dunne was appointed to the Rossendale Bench in October 1983 where she gained wide experience of criminal, juvenile and domestic work. She later became Vice Chairman of Rossendale Bench before its amalgamation with Burnley and Pendle, and her appointment as Vice Chairman of the newly formed Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale Bench in April 2000.
Her list of achievements included serving on the Bench Training and Development Committee as an appraiser, a member of the Probation Liaison Committee and long standing member of the General Purposes Committee which later became the Bench Management Committee.
Jake Berry commented: “It gives me great pleasure to celebrate Margaret’s long and distinguished contribution to the local community. Margaret is well known locally for bringing great experience to the Bench but her presence has been felt well beyond the Magistrates’ courts.
Margaret has also had a very active participation in the life of her local Church, the Community Relations Council, as a school governor and as the Mayoress of Rossendale. It is a lengthy list of achievements by anyone’s standards and is a testament to her generosity and public spiritedness. While the Rossendale Bench may have lost out on Friday, the local community will surely continue to benefit from Margaret’s presence. I would like to offer Margaret a big thank you and best wishes on her retirement.”
