Save Historical Rossendale Hospital
We all know and love the historic frontage of the former Rossendale Hospital. New plans for housing would see this demolished and we the undersigned would like to see the historic part of the existing building retained within the development to preserve our local heritage.
Built of local stone it is of historical value to the beautiful surroundings of the Rossendale Valley and is a local landmark. The building started life as a Poor House but has a special place in the hearts of Valley Residents many of whom have visited.

Stop the Labour led lCouncil’s scrapping of bin collections in Rossendale.
Rossendale council has stopped the service for hundreds of residents in rural areas who now have to drive or carry their rubbish to collection points.
I am fundamentally opposed to these proposals regarding bin collection services. While cost savings are necessary in this economy, leaving one section of the community to fend for themselves when it comes to rubbish collection is an appalling approach to the problem.
Details of the online petition can be found at www.tiny.cc/rossendale.

Save the redevelopment of Haslingden Swimming Pool
Petition to stop the Labour-led Council’s plans to ditch the redevelopment of the swimming pool at Haslingden.
Diverting the funds set aside for the pool project could leave residents without swimming facilities at all in Haslingden. This would force residents to look beyond the borough with consequences for the health and wellbeing of those who may stop swimming and for youngsters who lose the opportunity to learn in the first place.
Save the 464 bus route
Following successful negotiations and indeed with the assistance of this petition, I am delighted that the Council have now agreed to continue the service until at least March 2012.
I appreciate this is a lifeline to many and I am extremely pleased that the Council have agreed with me and a successful outcome has been achieved.
I thank everyone for signing the petition which has proved to be extremely worthwhile in showing weight behind this campaign. Needless to say, I will continue to monitor the situation to try and ensure we see a continuation of this vital service
Save the 537 bus route
A meeting has now been held with Graham Burgess, Chief Executive of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.
Further to this meeting, I can confirm that Mr Burgess has agreed to look again at the decision to withdraw £10,000 subsidy for the 537 bus service.
Darwen Police Stations - front desk closures
On 24 June I met with Superintendent Jonathan Puttock from Lancashire Constabulary. Superintendent Puttock has confirmed to me that, although some services will move from Darwen, the Police Station will not close.
The main service being lost is our front desk in Darwen, which is currently marked for closure. The front desk in Darwen is used by around 6000 people per year and I believe it is vital that we keep this service open in the town.
Consultation about this loss of service from Darwen is open until October and I will be working with Lancashire Police to try and ensure an alternative is offered.
I am hoping that before October we will be able to agree a solution that may see the front desk of Darwen Police Station moved to our Town Hall.
