The school is located on Burnley Road between Bacup & Weir and although many cars stick to the prescribed limit there have been reports of a number of near misses including a recent incident where a child was clipped by a car wing mirror. Many parents have expressed their worries that it’s not a case of ‘if’ there’s a serious accident, it’s a matter of ‘when’.
Jake commented, ‘Northern Primary is a fantastic local school, it’s just unfortunate that it’s located near a bend on a busy road with narrow pavements and very limited parking which makes a difficult situation much more dangerous. I know that the staff, pupils and their families have done everything they can which is why the County Council are now looking into the situation.’
Cllr Peter Steen added, ‘This has been an ongoing concern for some time, there have been a number of near misses and the school, pupils and families are rightly very concerned. I’m pleased that the Road Safety Officer from Lancashire County Council was able to join us and a number of options such as new signs, speed indicators and extra enforcement are now being looked at to try to improve matters.
